Garage Size & Accessory Structure Limits
- Garages and sheds combined may total up to 1,400 sq ft.
- No single accessory structure may exceed 1,000 sq ft.
- In addition to a garage (attached or detached), one accessory structure is permitted.
- Buildings must be at least 6 feet from the house or constructed with fire-rated walls.
- Accessory structures may not be located on drainage or utility easements.
Garage Height Rules
- Maximum garage height: 15 feet
- Height is measured per City of New Hope standards
Setback Requirements
- Front yard: Detached garages are not allowed in front yards
- Rear yard (detached garages): minimum 10 feet
- Rear yard (attached garages): minimum 25 feet
- Side yard: minimum 5 feet
- Corner lots require additional setbacks depending on street classification (contact city staff for confirmation)
Driveways & Curb Cuts
- Driveways and curb cuts must be at least 3 feet from side property lines
- Corner-lot driveways must be at least 40 feet from the intersection
- All driveways and parking areas must be paved with concrete, asphalt, or paving block
- Minimum driveway construction:
- 6-inch Class 5 base
- 2-inch asphalt surface
- Maximum curb cut width:
- Residential: 24 feet
- Residential 3-car garage: 28 feet

A building permit application, scaled plans, and applicable fees must be submitted before construction begins, unless exempt.
